July 4th, 2012

Yesterday was one of those days filled with pure Americana imagery.
It was a perfect day.
From my watermelon carving, Whalio Inglesias...
...which was overflowing with red and blue fruit salad...

...to the chocolate cheesecake filling for our Napoleons...
 ...the food was perfect.
Of course, it was onto the firewoks.
We park ourselves between a small municipal airport and the boys'
college campus with blankets, mosquito lanterns,
and cooler.
 Talk about chillin'.
Okay, camp is set, let's celebrate!

Oh yes, I'm in on this!
Teenagers.
They can do almost anything from a flopped pose.

 Babe, hit the auto focus!
Meh, maybe my hair looks better like this.

While we waited for the parking lot to clear out, we
lit a few of our own private stock.

We'll set off the rest tonight.
And finish our revelry.
And get back to work.
But I'll always find a reason to take time off with my family.
At almost 18, 19, and 21, those days are dwindling.
Or are they?

I know that feeling! My boys are 18, 20 & 22. It seems like I never get to see them anymore!

I did get to watch fireworks with my 18 year old last night though.

You have to take those moments when you get them!

Looks like the perfect way to celebrate the 4th. Your carved watermelon is super fun. You always have the best adventures with your minions.

PS. We were up waaaaaaay too late with fireworks last night and I had to be in a classroom at 8am this morning. Yawn.

Fun post! I can't believe your kids will stray too far from all the fun that seems to always be around you!
